Camtasia 9 is not a free tool. However, it is a premium product with sophisticated features of recording and editing. Russell has been using Camtasia for over 10 years and is a recommended trainer for Techmsith, which is the company that creates both Camtasia and SnagIt.
This video will show you how to record a PowerPoint presentation, how to add your webcam, how to resize the webcam, how you can move the webcam to any part of the screen, how to work with your slides, how you can add a border around the webcam, and how to get perfect screen sizes. Many educators want to create online courses with PowerPoint presentations, that also include the webcam. The webcam is a vital part of your presentation when you come to do a voiceover or a narration. Unlike SnagIt, you are not limited in Camtasia to only having either the webcam or the PowerPoint slides on screen. With Camtasia you can have both, with the webcam in one corner of the screen and the PowerPoint slides as the main feature of your presentation recording.

If you have a virtual learning environment in which your students can access, you could add your final recording to a Moodle course, on edmodo.com on blackboard or indeed any other platform where you wish to share your presentation. Learners would be able to fast forward and rewind and replay the recording at will full stop you can also add or upload your recording up to YouTube where you can make it and listed so the only people with the Direct link to the video can see it.

Just a little tip. When I do a recording I never record full screen. There is really no need to. I will show you in this video why this is the case. Choose the area you would like to record, then pause and continue the recording. You have much more control than if you are recording full screen. Because of the high amount of pixels in an image or video, it doesn’t matter. When you make it full screen the recording will be high enough quality. Watch as I mark off the right area that I require. When I click on the camera it gives you an option. Even if the camera is not showing on screen, it is still recording. In this tutorial you will see how recording using the Camtasia screencapture video tool, you can have a lot of control over what you eventually record, which leads to the project files. I show how to stitch different files together in other videos. In this Camtasia tutorial you can see that I am using an inbuilt camera to record both my own webcam AND the PowerPoint on the screen. Although I work with two screens, you only need one. In the editor window, you can do a lot in terms of the size of the screen. This tutorial explains how you can vary the size of the screen and, also, how big the camera window is and where you place it. All of this can be done in the editor.

Real screen capture with a webcam in Camtasia 9. How to edit your recordings and the editing process is shown in the middle section of this tutorial. Creating teacher presence in an online course where you include videos with powerpoint and webcam is very useful. I make all my videos for blended learning and flipped learning courses using either SnagIt or Camtasia.
