A Walk with The Relic: The Lustron Home (Columbus OH)

On this Walk I take you on a short tour of the Lustron home that is currently located inside the Ohio History Connection on 17th Ave, in Columbus OH.

Shortly after WWII, Lustron homes were developed to help the returning GIs get a new home. The Lustron homes were allmetal construction, and once delivered the workmen could have it put together quickly. This particular home could house a couple and a child or two.

It looks pretty cozy IMO. However, the Lustron home concept was ultimately a failure, and the company itself stopped their manufacture by 1951. There are some of these homes still in existence, including in Clintonville OH. You can find out more online, and there is also a TV documentary on the Lustron Home.

I preceded the Lustron exhibit with a few minutes' exploration of some of the Ohio History Connection's postwar exhibits, including a classic RockOla jukebox and a Coke machine from the period.

I shot more video at the Ohio History Connection while I was there, so keep an eye out for them. I thank you for watching, and join me on another Walk with The Relic, coming Wednesday at 7PM!
