Devastating tornadoes tore across parts of eastern Nebraska and northeast Texas Friday as a multiday severe thunderstorm event ramped up in the central United States.
As of Friday afternoon at 4:00 pm, trained spotters with the National Weather Service confirmed at least 23 tornadoes and reported spottings of at least two funnel clouds. Storm cells are still popping up as this is a developing story.
Storms began firing off across parts of the Plains and South early Friday afternoon with multiple tornadoes observed by midafternoon in Nebraska – including at least one that tracked near Lincoln and west of Omaha.
