A Not Just Bikes Tour of 'Hidden' Amsterdam

Follow
Active Towns

Jason Slaughter with @NotJustBikes graciously took Jordan Clark and me out on a little afternoon ride in Amsterdam on November 1, 2022. He wanted to show us a side of the city that most visitors and even many residents never get to experience the industrial suburbs just outside the highway ring. Along the way on this journey, he leads us through three beautiful parks, Beatrixpark, Rembrandtpark, and Westerpark, in part to make the point that comfortable and convenient connectivity through such parks could be and should be central to a city's cycle network plan. And as you shall see and hopefully experience in this video if you have access to a route away from motor vehicle noise, exhaust, and physical threats, it is so much more comfortable and relaxing, and we'd say: better!

In the end, we'd also say that this is not just a bike ride, but a mini NJB Master Class. Enjoy!

Background:
Hi Everyone! My name is John Simmerman, and I’m a health promotion and public health professional with over 30 years of experience. Over the years, my area of concentration has evolved into a specialization in how the built environment influences human behavior related to active living and especially active mobility.

Since 2010, I've been exploring, documenting, and profiling established, emerging, and aspiring Active Towns wherever they might be while striving to produce highquality multimedia content to help inspire the creation of more safe and inviting, environments that promote a "Culture of Activity" for "All Ages & Abilities."

The Active Towns Channel features my original video content and reflections, including a selection of podcast episodes and short films profiling the positive and inspiring efforts happening around the world as I am able to experience and document them.

Thanks once again for tuning in! I hope you find this content helpful and insightful.
