A gentleman meets a shepard on a bridge, no escape, and in spite of his inferior status the shepard is dressed as fine as the gentleman. After being asked about this arrogance, the shepard answers in a rude manner, so he is arrested and sentenced to death. His parents try to buy him free, and after his father offers 300 lambs, the gentleman is willing to have his daughter married to his son. Recorded in 1918 from "Papa Gerné", a noted singer in Lorraine, born in 1830.
The instrument is a German lute, in guitar tuning, with additional bass strings tuned D, C, B, A, built 1905 by Michael Wach, München.
