94 F150 4.9L Runs Rich Hard To Start Black Smoke Poor Idle

In this video, we have a 1994 f150 4.9L with 166,808 miles. After hitting a pot hole that caused the engine to stall, the engine had a hard time starting.

It ran extremely rich, causing black smoke from the tail pipe, poor idle, and engine surge.

Fuel pressure was correct with no pressure bleed off. Trying to pin point the cylinder, the spark plugs were removed. All 6 were carbon fouled indicating to much fuel being delivered.

So the next step was to check the coolant temp sensor. In this case, the coolant temperature sensor was bad.

After replacing the sensor, the vehicle ran great. The oil was changed in case any fuel containments made there way past the rings and mixed in the oil.
