In this episode of Cars With Cory, we work on repairing my 1990 Ford F150 Lariat. Since Ive owned it, this truck has always had a high idle that would bounce around between 9002000 RPM. It also had very firm shifts into and out of gears while stopped and also while shifting forward gears on the road. This issue was fixed with a single capacitor in the ECM which could be purchased at an electronics supply store for $1.00 or less! This repair applies to many other Ford vehicles of similar model years including the F250, E150, E250, and Bronco. It is easy to diagnose by removing a few bolts and can save hundreds compared to replacing the entire ECM.
