9 Week Old Leonberger Puppy Training

With two small children at home, waiting to train (puppy school start date etc) wasn't an option this time. Leonberger puppies grow crazy fast! For reference, when he came home at 8 weeks he was 21lbs. By 10 weeks he was 31lbs. With the growth comes reach and they are quickly able to get into things you thought were out of reach. But with Little O being my 4th personal dog in addition to family dogs growing up, I felt ready for the independent training adventure.

Our leonberger puppy is incredibly food motivated and eager to please so training has been incredibly easy so far! We train as a group with our other dog and kids (so lots of distractions) and alone as well and both outside and inside in order to vary the distractions.

We have been working on the following commands at 9 weeks and will build on this list as he grows:
Come
Sit
Lay down
Watch me
Touch
Paw

In addition to these he is mostly potty trained and he is getting better with his crate and car rides. Unlike our first Leonberger, Monzie, this guy doesn't attempt to jump up on anyone and we have been celebrating and encouraging his 'four on the floor' attitude.
