8 Layer Glass Art Murrine Cane for Lampwork Beads DEMO

One of the main components in all my handmade glass art lampwork beads is murrini! I love the intricate designs and interest small murrini chips can add to beads. I especially love how they look under a clear glass encasement.

In this video I demonstrate how I create a complex, 8 layer murrine cane which will be cut down into smaller chips and added to my beads onebyone.

People often describe my beads as tiny underwater worlds... The ocean is a big influence in all of my designs. I strive to create beads with enough detail in the design that there is something different to see from every angle.

What is Lampworking? It is the art of creating small glass beads (and other glass elements) by melting rods of colored glass in a flame, then winding that melted glass around a steel rod (mandrel), which creates the bead hole. After the artist is finished making the bead on the mandrel, and the glass hardens back to a solid state, It is placed into a preheated kiln to soak for a length of time which strengthens (anneals) the glass. After the annealing process in the kiln, and the glass is cool, it is removed from the steel mandrel and a bead has been created! After some cleaning, the bead is now ready to be used in any jewelry design.
