I am not an expert. But hopefully you can learn from my mistakes!
Based on the symptoms I was experiencing with the current engine, I decided to swap it for a much newer Kohler Courage VTwin I had laying around as a parts engine. Combining the good parts from both engines wasn't too bad, but dealing with sheared mounting bolts in the sump was very difficult. In the end, I believe I have a better engine on the machine.
