1. What’s That Noise?!

As with the sound of sirens,
when dogs hear repetitive and highpitched noises,
There are mainly two reasons for this kind of howling.

They’re either joining in because they think it’s another dog howling
or they simply think the noise is loud
and want to express that they’re feeling stressed.


2. I’m so Lonely!

When dogs with separation anxiety are left alone,
they express their loneliness, anxiety, and fear,
by howling loudly.

This kind of howling means “I want my family,”
and it’s mostly likely a way of
trying to tell faraway family or peers where they are.

But if your dog still howls even when they are with family,
it may just be a force of habit to draw attention.

3. Don’t Say I Didn’t Warn You!

If your dog is resting at home then suddenly starts to howl,
it may be because they sensed the presence of a stranger.

Dogs have strong instincts to protect their territory.
So, it’s highly likely they are howling to warn strangers 
that they are invading their territory and to stay away.

Also, when dogs think that their owner is in danger
or that they need to be wary of their surroundings,
it’s possible they will howl.

4. I’m Sick and Anxious!

If your dog is usually quiet
but has recently started howling often,
it may mean that they are sick.

But if an older dog starts howling often,
it may be a sign that they have dementia.

So, if your dog has suddenly started howling
it’s best to be aware of their usual behavior before visiting the vet.
