Guide Book: BEST ORE LOCATIONS
Mountains:
Iron Y=232 or basically as high as you can get in the mountains available. Not all mountains are 232 blocks high!
Coal Y=96.
Emeralds Y=232.
Gold Y=48 to 256 in the Badlands Biome only!

Caving:
Iron Y=56 to 16. Large Veins can also be found between 8 to 56
Coal Above Y=0. None generates below that point.
Gold Y=32 to 64 with more in the Badlands Biome!
Lapis Y=64 to 64. Between Y=32 to 32 you CAN find surface Lapis, but it is much more limited. The higher saturations are found by digging into the walls.
Copper Y=112 to 16. You will find more in dripstone caves. Large Veins can also be found between Y=0 to 56.
Emeralds Above Y=16 but only found in the Mountains Biome.
Redstone Y=14 and below with saturation increasing below Y=32.
Diamonds Y=14 and below with Reduced Air Exposure throughout and Higher Saturation further down.

Branch Mining
Y=16 for Iron, Coal, Gold, Lapis and Copper.
Y=54 for Redstone and Diamonds.
