This is exactly why you should never follow a trucker too closely and why you should never pass them on the right, if not absolutely necessary. Oh, and not speeding in the vicinity of trucks also is a good idea. Yes, some truckers camp out in the middle lane. Even I do it in certain areas. But in an area like this and with these traffic conditions, there is no good reason for me to stay in the middle lane. As such, I use the middle lane only long enough to complete passes, then normally move back to the rightmost lane.

If I had a dollar for every time a POV driver tried to or did pass me on the right when a lane to our left was vacant and available for their use, I'd be rich. This mentality of the general motoring public needs to change. This habit is why a lot of "run under" collisions involving the fronts of 4wheelers and the backs of semi trailers occur. I've not been involved in any such collisions, personally, but I have passed by some and even assisted the occupants of a car that was involved in one before.
