2003-2009 4Runner V8 replace transfer case actuator without removing the transfer case

This is a video showing how to remove a Toyota 4Runner B8 transfer case actuator and replacement without removing the transfer case. This will require an actuator off of a donor vehicle, or replacing the motors in your existing actuator.

I have ordered about four different actuators from eBay and all of them had something wrong with them either the motor did not work at all or the connection to the motor was bad

There are two motors in these actuators. One motor service is the center differential lock in the second motor services, the fourwheeldrive, high and low gear.

The latest actuator I received would only work, fourwheeldrive, high and low, and would not let the differential lock work correctly. I ended up taking the center differential lock out of another actuator. That center deaf, locked work. I did not have to clock it.

The only time you have to change the encoder or clocking on these is if you move them or you remove them when they are in four wheel low or differential lock.

I have other videos posted showing the correct clocking orientation. There are two encoders one is blue and one is gray. Do not move these and also the two main gears have to be in the correct position.

Changing out the actuator with a working actuator is very simple. Just remove the three bolts and remove the old actuator and install the new actuator, and when you start tightening down the bolts, you must do them together, so it pushes the actuator on square.

As you are screwing in the actuator, you will hear binding sounds and that is just the drive gear, going into the gear inside the actuator and that is a good sound

Please send me a message if you have any questions because I have replaced this actuator about six times and finally found one that both the center differential lock and fourwheeldrive lock work.

When I first finished the installation of the first actuator, I could not get center differential work correctly with the fourwheeldrive so I removed the motor assembly from another actuator for the center diff lock, and it is not working
