1969 Pontiac Trans Am (1st Year)

The first year of the Trans Am. Starting off as a optional package for a Firebird 400
the order code was WS4.

The Ford Mustang is what got things started. Once the Mustang was out no sooner than the Camaro, Javelin, Cougar, Firebird and Challenger started appearing. It was Muscle Car time.

The 69’ Trans Am featured the 400 cu. in. Ram Air III V8 engine producing 335 HP.

An option was the Ram Air IV engine producing 345 HP available with 3 speed or 4 speed transmission.

According to “Hagerty” 697 examples were produced with the base 335 HP engine of the 697, 114 examples had the automatic gear box.

Old Car Weekly says 634 were made.
