Wolves Attack Musk Oxen

The wolves rally the family to go hunting and the “spy wolf” is watching as the “snowy owl spy” is filming from up above. It can fly longrange and cruise at 15 miles per hour. It’s perfect for tracking wolves on the move. The wolves have 75 thousand square miles to hunt in. They head into the wind to try and catch a scent. It’s a testing time for such tiny pups. Musk oxen are prime prey for arctic wolves. Downwind, the wolves are difficult to detect, but musk oxen are easily spooked. So, the wolves carefully take up the position. selecting the young or the sick, but the pups have yet to learn the rules. Their cover is blown and the herd clusters together. Forming a protective circle around their calves. The wolves surround them.

This time, the pups remain still. The pack plans its next move as they split the herd, as the pups watch and learn. They’ve singled out the oldest ox. But a fullygrown musk ox weighs 400 kilos and can kill a wolf and its thick woolly coat is almost impenetrable. Their aim is to tire her out. The wolves at the front keep the musk ox distracted, and those at the back anchor her down. Such battles can last an hour. Exhausted, she gives up the fight. The musk ox is huge and powerful and has a large coat to protect it, so when these four arctic wolves decide to attack this musk ox, they are in for a treat, and the kind they expect.

The musk ox fights like a beast and fends off all the attacks, even though the wolves are aggressive and don’t let up. It takes some time, but the wolves eventually get the job done. Muskoxen males stand five feet at the shoulder and weigh a massive 800 pounds. Aside from polar bears, they are the largest animals that roam the arctic tundra, but even they are vulnerable to predators. A pack of arctic wolves catches the herd and defies it, but the muskoxen scramble to form a defensive ring. The adults equipped with long hooked horns are more than a match for the war, but it’s not the adults the wolves are after.

The herd panics and runs. It is a fatal mistake. Their lines are broken, so they cannot protect their young. The wolves separate a calf from the rest of the herd and the wolves make a kill. When two wolves manage to isolate a musk ox calf, the herd comes running to its rescue and chases the wolves away, forcing them to abandon the hunt. The musk oxen maintain their motto “one for all and all for one” and prove it in this video. Some wolves are on the hunt in this video and experts observe a male wolf and his mate kill a musk ox. Later, they find them feeding on an adult musk ox they killed. I guess you could say it was a good day at the office for these wolves.

Wolf Attacks Moose

When a pack of wolves attacks her calf, the mother of a newborn moose seeks to interfere, but I feel it is too late. The wolves kill the young moose even when the mother attacks. They just avoid being squashed by the mother's strong legs and swallow the calf. The huge moose returns several times to defend her kid, but she is unsuccessful each time. Some people came around a corner in the road near the MontanaIdaho border and observed two fully grown wolves attempting to bring down a moose. They stayed for almost twenty minutes and then watched the moose limp away. When some wolves spy on a moose mom and her calf on a riverbank, they try to figure out how to take the calf, but the mom is massive and won't let them get close to the baby without a battle. The wolves decide it's too dangerous and swim to the other side.
