The Promise and Perils of Artificial Intelligence
If you are intrigued by the possibilities of artificial intelligence but concerned about its dangers, there may be no better guide to AI's current status and future direction than Andrew Ng. Considered one of the world's most influential computer scientists, Ng says he is "wildly optimistic about building a better society" with the help of machine intelligence. He scoffs at the idea of AI threatening humanity, but also frets about AIrelated job displacement. At this event he will discuss the future of AI and initiatives to regulate it.

Ng was born in the United Kingdom to parents who hailed from Hong Kong. He holds a bachelor's degree from Carnegie Mellon University, a masters from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and a Ph.D. in computer science from University of California, Berkeley. He was a founder of Google Brain, an artificial intelligence research team, and was formerly chief scientist of Baidu, a Chinese AI and Internet company. Currently adjunct professor at Stanford University, Ng has founded several AIrelated companies as well as the AI Fund, which backs artificial intelligence startups.
