পশ্চিমবঙ্গের গ্রামবাংলার বিভিন্ন এলাকায় বিভিন্ন ধরনের কুটির শিল্পের প্রচলন রয়েছে। তবে একসময়কার বিখ্যাত কুটির শিল্পগুলির অধিকাংশই বর্তমানে ধুঁকছে। পশ্চিম মেদিনীপুর জেলার দাসপুর২ এবং পূর্ব মেদিনীপুর জেলার কোলাঘাট ব্লক বিষাণ শিল্পের জন্য বিখ্যাত। কিন্তু বর্তমানে এই দুই ব্লকেরই বিষাণ শিল্প কার্যত হারিয়ে যেতে বসেছে। বিষাণ শব্দটির অর্থ হল পশুশৃঙ্গ। গরু বা মোষের শিং থেকে ব্যবহার্য ও কারুকার্য জিনিসপত্র তৈরি করার নামই হল বিষাণ শিল্প। গরু বা মোষের শিং থেকে বিষাণ শিল্পে ঘর সাজানোর জন্য ফুলদানি, ছোট ছোট পাখি, বাঘ, হাতি, ঘোড়া, ময়ূর সহ বিভিন্ন কারুকার্যের জিনিসপত্র তৈরি করা হয়। একসময় কোলাঘাট ব্লকের কুলহান্ডা, কলাগাছিয়া, দূর্বাচটি, বৈষ্ণবচক সহ পার্শ্ববর্তী বিভিন্ন গ্রামে, প্রায় প্রতিটি ঘরে ঘরে মানুষজন এই বিষাণ শিল্পের সঙ্গে যুক্ত ছিল। কোলাঘাটের এই গরু বা মোষের শিং থেকে তৈরি জিনিসপত্রের কদর ছিল সারা ভারতবর্ষ তথা বিদেশেও। কোলাঘাটে শিং দিয়ে তৈরি জিনিসপত্র ভারতবর্ষের বিভিন্ন এলাকার পাশাপাশি বিদেশেও রফতানি করা হত একসময়। ফলে বাড়ি বাড়ি ছিল এই কুটির শিল্পের কারখানা। কিন্তু বর্তমানে নানান কারণে বিক্রিবাটা বন্ধ। এই শিল্প থেকে রোজগার কমে গেছে অনেকটাই। ফলে নতুন প্রজন্ম বিমুখ এই শিল্প থেকে। ধর্মের বাধকতায় বিলুপ্তির পথে এই বিষান শিল্প |

Different types of cottage industries are practiced in different areas of rural Bengal in West Bengal. But most of the once famous cottage industries are now in ruins. Daspur2 in West Midnipur district and Kolaghat block in East Midnipur district are famous for Bishan industry. But currently the Bishan industry of both these blocks is practically lost. The word Bishan means horn. Bishan art is the name for making useful and handicraft items from cow or buffalo horns. Various handicraft items including vases, small birds, tigers, elephants, horses, peacocks are made from the horns of cows or buffaloes in the Bishan industry. Once upon a time in the surrounding villages including Kulhanda, Kalagachia, Durbachti, Vaishnabachak of Kolaghat block, almost every household was associated with this Bishan industry. Goods made from the horn of this cow or buffalo of Kolaghat were valued all over India as well as abroad. Kolaghat products made of horn used to be exported to different parts of India as well as abroad. As a result, houses were factories of this cottage industry. But currently the sale is closed due to various reasons. Earnings from this industry have decreased a lot. As a result, the new generation is turning away from this industry. This sad industry is on the way to extinction due to the hindrance of religion
