The concept of speed is quite important in my singing practice philosophy. To sing as freely as possible, you need to be able to pick up the correct settings very quickly into your vocal instrument. Generally this is harder for higher notes, since the adjustments for those are further away from the socalled neutral position of the larynx, vocal folds, and the vocal tract. Lets say that the muscles that control your voice need 0.5 seconds to find the perfect settings when you start phonation. It means that you will be phonating that first 0.5 seconds with not so perfect settings, which will lead to some unwanted compensatory muscle effort. This will take away some freedom from your singing. On this video I'm going to expand on this idea and give you a nice exercise to develop your speed.
