Not all debts are created equal or treated equally. Some debts cannot be wiped clean in a bankruptcy. In other words, just by filing a case you cannot count on having all of your debt 'forgiven'. Certain types of debts cannot be discharged. If a debt 'survives' a discharge it means it lives on and the creditor can pursue recovery of the amount due.
