You Can Fire Your Attorney, In Court If Necessary

Many people may not understand that not only can you decide who will be your legal representation, but that you can start or stop representation at any time. An attorney is obligated by law to go to a pending hearing if one is already set into motion, but you can always say right in the middle of the hearing, (from the hot seat even) that you are not satisfied with the representation you have and ask that you have time to find new counsel. This might not make your current attorney or the court happy, but it certainly is not illegal or out of line if you just can't stand to be damaged by poor counsel for one second longer. You aren't forced to retain counsel, and you certainly should speak up if you think you aren't being represented properly. Not wanting to switch horses in the middle of the race, is far different from not trusting your current attorney or believing you have competent counsel.
