Twise a year, most Akitas go through a heavy shedding period, where they shed their entire undercoat in just a few weeks.
This is referred to, as blowing coat and is where Akita owners and their vacuum cleaners, have their work cut out for them.
The remaining ten months a year, they hardly shed, but still require weekly brushing to maintain their plush, dence coats, and regular baths are also recommended.
