Yeast Bread WITHOUT an Oven – Cooks in 10 Minutes The Hillbilly Kitchen Easy yeast bread without an oven, cooks in minutes and makes delicious rolls or buns for any occasion.

There are no special ingredients or equipment needed. Just a few minutes in a skillet on the stove and you can have fresh hot bread for sandwiches or to serve with dinner any time of the day without heating the house up with the oven.

In the days before we all lived air conditioned houses, we didn’t turn the oven on in the middle of the day during Summer. Skillet baked bread saved us from starvation. We ate everything from peanut butter and jelly to hamburgers on it. This is a really good allpurpose bread. You can add spices or herbs to change the flavor of this basic recipe. The texture and flavor are just like oven baked yeast bread. Even though you still have the rise time you have with regular oven bread, it cooks much faster in a skillet. You do have to watch it closely but the tradeoff in cook time and the rise in house temperature is well worth the effort. Because it is cooked fast and the crust is heated by the skillet’s surface, the bread has a slightly crisp outside and a slightly chewy texture inside. It is moist, soft and tender.

This recipe and cooking technique are both as old as the hills. Any recipe that has survived as long as this bread, is good enough to hang onto and eat often.

2 cups Plain Flour or Bread Flour
½ cup Milk
2 tablespoons Butter
4 teaspoons Yeast
2 tablespoons Honey
1 teaspoon Salt
1 Egg Oil to coat Dough
