In this painting tutorial, I'll guide you step by step how I create an abstract botanical painting, using different paint layers to create more details.
➡I start off blending acrylics on canvas to create a beautiful 'sunset' blended background. This is layer one, and I'm letting it dry completely. After that I'm painting another layer over the blended background and start using catalyst wedges, I start scraping off layers, revealing the painted background underneat. I sketch out a rough composition for my botanical work, layering colors and using my wedges to blend and define.

However, as the piece progresses, I face challenges in tying everything together. The need for more contrast becomes apparent, leading me to introduce sap green (like in every painting I make ;)!) and consider how to balance the composition without losing the piece's initial charm.

The endresult is different and very unique to what I have created so far. The detailed background is so neat and gorgeous to me and it looks like there is this beautiful sunset behind the foliage.
I've seen other artists work with the catalyst wedges, and have used them in paintings years ago, but this reignites my fire to use them more! Wow, just in love with the effect this created in the background. So delicate, so gentle.
