ABOUT US:
Weber State University (WSU) Department of Automotive Technology Transmission Lab.

This video is part 5 of a 5 part series. This video series tells the development history and shows the actual components and operation of a 1940 1955 General Motors HydraMatic 4speed Automatic Transmission.

This transmission design was used by Oldsmobile, Cadillac, Pontiac, Lincoln, RollsRoyce, Bentley, Willys, Nash, Hudson as well as the Cadillacpowered M5 light tank during and other military vehicles World War II.

From what I can find, the 1941 Cadillac 346 V8 had 150 hp and 283 lbft of torque (3 pinion rear unit planetary gear set). 1953 Cadillac 331 V8 had 210 hp and 330 lbft of torque. (4 pinion rear unit planetary gear set)

This video was created and edited by Professor John D. Kelly at WSU. For a full biography, see http://www.weber.edu/automotive/J_Kel...
