Indigenous Voice to Parliament Design Group CoChair Professor Marcia Langton has shared her respect and admiration for former Australian of the Year Galarrwuy Yunupingu, who passed away at the age of 74.

Mr Yunupingu was Instrumental in the recognition of land rights in the Northern Territory and was responsible for devising the notion of constitutional recognition, Ms Langton told Sky News Australia.

“This wonderful man came into the world when his people were in the middle of the most tumultuous part of their history,” she said.

“He became a leader both in his own culture and a bridge between the cultures and between government systems, and he was able to steer people in the right direction with great wisdom and grace.”
