Why does your dog roll in something stinky and gross, like a dead animal or poop? It's because of your dog's wolfy ancestors! Wolves roll in scents to share information with the pack. Rolling in canine poop is a great way to communicate to the pack that there's a stranger around their territory and to be on the look out. On the other hand, rolling in a carcass tells the pack that there's a yummy treat nearby. Our wolfdogs do this instinctual behaviour too, and it is a great form of natural enrichment for them. There's nothing better than rolling around with your legs in the air!
