I just quit my job and left the big city of Toronto to move onto 40acres of Canadian wilderness with a magical river. I am building an offgrid homestead with multiple cabins and structures from the timber on the land. I may have made a huge mistake as doing this at the start of Winter in late November may make general construction difficult if not impossible.

My first project is a 12' by 16' cabin using the BUTT AND PASS method with raw logs. It will include a sleeping loft and a steel roof. I will not be milling or saddle notching the logs, but chinking in the small gaps that do appear with the butt and pass method with raw logs. This method's main advantage is SPEED.
