You've probably heard the terms "winter blend" and "summer blend" in regards to gasoline These seasonal changes in fuel blends are designed to compensate for seasonal temperature changes. For the fuel to burn, it has to convert from a liquid to a vapor, and these seasonal fuel blends change the temperature at which the fuel will convert to a vapor lower temperature in the winter and a higher temperature in the summer.

This change is measured in a term called Reid Vapor Pressure, and we did a previous video on this topic. Here’s the link to learn more about vapor pressure testing.    • When Octane Doesn't Matter  Winter &...

The question at hand is do these changes in the gasoline blend impact the horsepower output of an engine. Thanks to the guys at Shaver Specialties Racing Engines in Torrance, California, we were able to find out.

Using their small block Chevy test engine, @dynodonnymac7421 and Lake Speed Jr dyno using both winter blend and summer blend fuels of the same octane.
