Windmill Spiking at Metcalf Station Part 1

Follow
shaggyfied

Matthew "Sim Webb" Hauser and Kyle "Addison Beauchamp" Soyer, two members of the inaugural Metcalf Station 2014 staff, demonstrate windmill spiking almost the same way it would have been done in 1907, when the original Cimarron & Northwestern Railway was built through the North Ponil Canyon. This would normally be done with a third track laborer "nipping" the tie, or using a lining bar and fulcrum or just a claw bar to raise the tie off the ground, keeping it flush with the rail. We used a rail jack instead.

If you look to the right side of the frame around the 1:50 mark, you can see the recorder falling over from the maul impacts.
