Wild DEATH VALLEY Camping (First Timer's Guide)

Did you know that in Death Valley, Camping is allowed pretty much anywhere?

I recently went to Death Valley for my first time and I put together this vlog/guide to help you plan a trip there.

1) Camping. In Death Valley, we camped 8 miles up Cottonwood Canyon Road. In Death Valley, you are allowed to camp 1 mile away from all paved roads. Cottonwood Canyon Road is an exception. You are allowed to camp 8 miles up.

2) Eureka Sand Dunes. These Dunes are right next to Stovepipe Wells. They are fairly impressive dunes considering how easy they are to access. Expect lots of footprints.

3) Gower Gulch/Golden Canyon Hike. This was hands down my favorite thing we did. This was a super impressive, super short hike. Great payoff. Do not skip this! Park in the Golden Canyon trailhead parking, walk counter clockwise up the loop. Get there early, both parking and sun are brutal.

4) Devil's Golfcourse, an interesting display of calcified salt. It's a quick stop.

5) Natural Bridge. There are more interesting natural rock features in the American Southwest, but it's only a quick detour to see it.

6) Badwater Basin. The lowest point in North America. Don't you want to be superlative for a moment?

7) Artist's drive. It's interesting, but every photo you've seen of this place has done some massive color correction. Don't expect it to look like what you've seen online.

8) Zabriskie Point. If you want to skip the hike (don't do it) and just see the view from above, it is this!

We had been planning on doing the Cottonwood Canyon Marble Canyon Loop backpacking trip, but we read that it was maybe not worth the effort:
