Why you should own a Gordon Setter. Short cinematic video

The Gordon Setter is an athletic dog that is devoted to its owner. They are loyal and sweet and want to be around you all the time. Young dogs can be a bit too busy around children, but this is just because they want to play. They make good pets for active families. They get along well with children and other pets, but can be wary of strangers at first. Being an active breed, this dog needs something to do and is tireless on walks. They love to run around and generally listen quite well to the "here" command, although their independent nature can sometimes get the better of them and will stray and follow their noses if they spot something. Gordons need clear but friendly training and are generally open to learning.

They mature slowly, this is only really the case around the age of about three years. Brave and fearless, constantly wagging his tail and fond of contact with people. Flyball, obedience or another form of competition are very suitable to give them sufficient mental and physical challenge. As long as they can be with you, they are happy. Because they were bred to run, they must have the opportunity to expend their energy. They are best let out in a gated environment as they don't understand much about traffic. If they don't get enough exercise, they will get bored. A high energy level simply does not go together with boredom, this will lead to destructive behavior. They have a strong character and think independently, which means they can be stubborn at times. Never force a gordon setter to do anything he doesn't want to do, this will harm this dog. They can be sensitive dogs that react badly to too strict training. They are happy to accompany you when you go for a run, something that will strengthen the bond between you and your dog. Gordon setters can be very vocal and not just barking. They will let you know exactly what they want and they have several verbal methods for this.
