Barack and Michelle Obama's elder daughter, Malia, has recently made a bold and defining choice to distance herself from her famous family surname. At 25 years old, Malia is carving out her own path in the competitive world of Hollywood as an emerging filmmaker. This significant decision coincides with her debut in the industry, as she prepares to unveil her short film, "The Heart in Utah," at the prestigious Sundance Film Festival.

In an effort to establish her own identity and step out of the immense shadow cast by her parents, Malia has adopted a new stage name. The Harvard graduate chose to forgo her wellknown last name, Obama, a change she officially embraced back in January. This move was first highlighted in the Sundance Institute's "Meet the Artist" spotlight video, where she was introduced not as Malia Obama, but simply as Malia Ann.
