When we first moved to our 5 acres of bare land to develop our off grid homestead from scratch, we thought that we could hold off on some sort of septic system for a while as we were living in an RV with both a black and gray water tank. We thought that dumping the trailer on occasion wouldn't be a problem and that we could focus our resources (both time and money) on other projects.

However, after the one month mark passed, it was obvious that not having a septic system was one of our biggest pain points and we wanted to find a solution ASAP. Not only did we need a quick solution, but despite wanting to do most everything ourselves, we chose to have our septic system installed by a contractor. Oh yea, we also decided to get a septic permit after dragging our feet a bit (although we still aren't really stoked about it). Watch the video to learn why we got a permit as well.

Just to be clear, we haven't closed any doors on alternative disposal methods and are eager to research and implement some ideas in the future. This is just the solution that worked for us for the time being and has allowed us to ignore this pain point for a while to work on more important things on our property.
