I can't believe I forgot the most important part of Lantern Festival: Eating round delicious glutinous rice balls called tangyuan '湯圓' (Southern China, Taiwan and Southeast Asia) or yuanxiao '元宵' (Northern China). They are beautiful and round like the moon and filled with a sweet filling. It's simple and easy to make, we do it every year on the 15th day of Lunar New Year. Lantern Festival (元宵节: 元宵節; Yuánxiāo jié), also called Shangyuan Festival (上元节; 上元節; Shàngyuán jié), marks the last day of the Lunar New Year Celebrations! Here's a fun origin story on why it's often celebrated with bright red lanterns, fireworks and firecrackers!
