WHY DO I HAVE RIB PAIN AFTER BREAST CANCER TREATMENT? Rib Pain after Radiation Treatment

Follow
The Breast Cancer Physio

After Breast Cancer Treatment is finished, sometimes your quality of life can be impacted by accumulative physical and mental stressors. An example of this is ongoing physical pain as a side effect of Breast Cancer Treatment. One of those physical pains that can annoy you on a daily basis is lower rib pain on the side you had treatment.

I suspect this rib pain is caused by Radiation Treatment: In the same way it can affect the chest wall or the breast, Radiation can cause tension in the intercostal muscles (the muscles between the ribs) which in turn creates pain.

The good news from my clinical experience this issue is quickly treated with soft tissue massage of the intercostal muscles. Watch this video to learn more about rib pain after Radiation.
