Why Do Cats Follow You Everywhere You Go?

You're finally home, you move quickly through your dwelling toward the bathroom; this was the whole reason you rushed home in the first place. You sit, you start doing your business, hoping for a little bit of respite, and there it is: a cat's paw sliding under the crack between the bottom of the door and the floor. Why is it that cats seem to follow us everywhere we go? Let's discuss some of the reasons behind why they might become your little shadow. But before we begin, make sure to like this video and subscribe to our channel for more content.

Assuming you're a good pet owner, including both feeding and playing with your cat, one theory is that they've bonded to you as a sort of surrogate mother figure. The bond and the attachment to you can have them drifting with you from room to room, noisy or quiet, maybe getting up on your desk or counter to mirror whatever you're doing. This can be aggravating at times, especially in light of recent events making a lot of us work from home. Keep in mind that for most of these animals, we become their whole world. It can be easy to get annoyed at them, but some might even have one form or another of separation anxiety. Animals don't necessarily have feelings the way humans do, but they are known to display deep affection and familial bond with their own young and creatures of other species; this includes us. If something new comes into the home, they might even follow us out of fear or worry. We are their safe place, and knowing their protector is nearby is one of the reasons you'll often find your cat napping in the same room as you.

Cats are called curious for a reason, and they have their routines just like we do. Going through the motions of following us into the kitchen while we have our morning coffee to wake us up, it's entertaining to them. We fascinate them, the way they do us, while also being a consistent figure in their lives. Part of their routines might also include when we feed them if the method of feeding is at specific times of the day, or if it's simply when the bowl runs out. They need us, but they also like us.

Cats aren't often as cold as some people might believe, enjoying our companionship in their ways. Being labeled as aloof or unloving is inaccurate since it's relatively wellknown that cats are considered to have domesticated themselves with us, meaning they enjoy our company and want to be with us. Historically speaking, cats have been used as anything from vermin exterminators to objects of worship in ancient cultures. We've lived in tandem with these creatures for generations, so instinctively as a species, they know humans are generally trustworthy.

It's a perfectly healthy practice for our cats to follow us around, having patience and understanding some of the reasons why can help us have a deeper bond with our cats. Most of the time, cats simply want to be with us.
