A lot of moviegoers questioned why producer Jerry Bruckheimer didn't use the latest, most modern fighter jet in the Top Gun movie, such as the Lockheed Martin F35 Lightning. Showcasing America's latest technology. The primary reason, the F35 only comes as a singleseater, which would have made shooting the actors very difficult and primarily use visual effects to compensate. Therefore they decided to use the Boeing F18 F twoseater, mounting the cameras on the back of the pilot seat.
