A viewer just informed me that this behavior is known as “PRONKING.” I’m so glad to know the proper terminology and am including it here for you, as well.
I was so psyched when I realized what my trail camera had captured. I'm only sorry the camera wasn't high enough resolution for you to clearly see the coyote in the closeup footage overlay.
Gotta say, that hoof stomp is one of my favorite deer behaviors. I've saved bunches of videos showing the stomp over the years, although I realized I probably haven't posted any of those before. Well here's one now. Better late than never?
This poor deer's ears are trembling, it's so frightened of the coyote and rightfully so! I have been seeing a lot of injured deer coming through our property lately. Lots of does with big gashes and attack wounds. Not to mention coyotes coming through with parts of Bambi and larger does in their mouths. A coyote’s gotta eat, though. It’s just the nature of the natural world.
Upon first viewing this footage, it took me a second to see what this little deer was frightened of. When you first notice the commotion off in the distance, there’s another deer is heading up the hill on the upper left slope it, too, was spooked by the coyote.
