Bathsheba was one of David's wives and the mother of King Solomon. However, before marrying David, she was married to a man named Uriah. Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam, a warrior in David's troops, also had a notable lineage. Her grandfather was Ahithophel the Gilonite, who was also a counselor to David. The name Bathsheba means “seventh daughter” or “daughter of an oath”.

Uriah, Bathsheba’s first husband, was a Hittite warrior serving in David’s army. One day, while Uriah was on the battlefield, King David saw Bathsheba bathing in a purification ritual. Struck by her beauty, David had her brought to his palace, where he had a relationship with her.

Later, King David discovered that Bathsheba was pregnant. Attempting to cover up their affair, David tried to persuade Uriah to go home, hoping he would believe he was the father of Bathsheba's child. However, when David realized he couldn't conceal his sin, he ordered that Uriah be placed on the frontlines of battle and abandoned to die. Following Uriah’s death, David took Bathsheba as his wife. But through the prophet Nathan, David was rebuked by the Lord and punished for his wrongdoing.
