Thousands of balloons are floating in the sky at any given time. Many of them come from balloon hobbyists like John Garesche and Rick Eason. Inside Edition was invited to their latest launch for a scientific experiment conducted by Ohio seventh graders. It took 20 minutes for the balloon to inflate using a tank of helium gas. Over a fourhour period, it climbed to an altitude of more than 100,000 feet above Earth. Finally, it landed 170 miles away from the school on top of a pine tree.
