For four years, from 1940 to 1944, when France was occupied, Philippe Pétain had the French spied on. Massive espionage during which the head of state opened some 24 million letters and listened to 300,000 telephone conversations. Thanks to this monitoring, the Marshal knew in real time all that was said and plotted in the country. But with Pierre Laval and René Bousquet in charge, this information stolen from the French also served the repression. They were communicated to the police and were sometimes used to track down political opponents and Jews. Faced with this situation, postal officials resisted. Some of them joined Resistance networks and set up networks to save Jews.
Until now, the terrible story of the Service des Contrôles Techniques (SCT) which spied on the French on behalf of Vichy was unknown and its importance underestimated.
It has finally just been brought to light in its darkest aspects thanks to the work of historian Antoine Lefébure, who fueled this film rich in revelations.
