In motorsport, marshals are there to protect the drivers and supervise the track. And there have been times when the marshals have put themselves in the line of fire. Monza 2000, Australia 2001 and so on.

But in 1977, an accident occurred that shocked the F1 world and continues to shock newer viewers when they find out about it. The death of not only an up and coming driver, but also the life of a 19 year old marshal who, at the time of it happening, must have thought he was just doing his job...

So let's take a look at one of the most tragic things to happen in F1 history.
