What's the Deal with the Welland Humane Society?

[Disclaimer: my only intent with this video is to understand WHY I can’t volunteer my time and walk the dogs at the shelter, and WHY they don’t want them posted online to ultimately help the DOGS.]

A few years ago after my dog passed, I started walking the Humane Society dogs when I could. It’s something I always said I was going to do after I no longer had a dog of my own to walk daily.

Upon starting my dog walker journey, I quickly realized that they for some reason did not want me to post any photos of the adoptable dogs on my personal social media page and I have no idea why. All I was trying to do was highlight how cute these dogs were and maybe, just maybe get them in front of a potential adopter’s eyes.

I found it extremely odd then, and now that I’m trying to get going again with dog walking I have found the same issue.

I’d like to clarify once more: ALL I WANT TO DO IS HELP THESE DOGS FIND HOMES.

The best way that I know how to help is by volunteering my time to walk them, and by increasing their presence online to get them seen by more people and potential adopters. I am literally offering them FREE advertising.

What’s happened is when I arrive to dog walk, I’m watching all the adoptable dogs be handed to dog walkers around me and then I’m told that “there are no adoptable dogs for you to post, they’re all out walking.” Even though they KNOW I would like to highlight an adoptable dog but they don’t give me the opportunity to.

Today was the last straw.

I showed up with all of the other dog walkers, waiting to be handed a dog. Dogs were handed to all of the volunteers except for me, 1 other woman, and another woman who arrived very late.

I was told that “there are NO dogs left for you to walk today.” So, I responded with “ok, I guess all 3 of us are going home then.” Which was met with “no, no, no I have dogs for them but not for you, try coming back in the New Year.”

Can someone please help me understand what is going on here.

The story continues… after going back to my car I did not leave right away. In the time that I was in my car another person arrived and guess what they were given a dog to walk as well.

I’m trying to understand what is going on here and give them the benefit of the doubt but I can’t help but wonder WHY?! What is the reason you don’t want these dogs adopted ASAP.

Truly, I hope there is a reasonable explanation for how I've been treated and what's been happening because I'm afraid if there's not there could be a much larger issue at hand.
