Social Work Careers 2021 | What It's Like Working On A Psychiatric Ward

Hey Everyone,

Wanted to share another experience that I thought would be helpful for you. I know a lot of you are exploring various careers in Social Work and if you have an interest in helping those who are experiencing severe mental illness this could be the career path for you. Additionally, working on a Psychiatric Unit will give you a better picture of how mental illness can present. We can often times have a one dimensional understanding of what Depression, Schizophrenia or Bipolar Disorder looks like or what it is like to experience a suicide attempt. Working in this environment, will give you a broader scope to understand the complexities of mental illness. Additionally, it will help you learn to conceptualize the commonalities and behavior patterns of those who experience certain mental illnesses.
