What is Pullup and Pulldown resistor ?
The pullup resistor pulls up the voltage of the digital pin to logic HIGH and it prevents it from the floating condition (when the pin is interfaced with a switch).
The pullup resistors are often used with the open collector gates and open collector ICs and they are important part of the I2C protocol.
The pulldown resistor works exactly opposite to the pullup resistor. It pulls down the voltage of the digital pin to logic LOW and prevents it from the floating condition.
While using these pullup and pulldown resistor in any circuit, the selection of the proper value of the resistor is also very important.
In this video, how to select the value of pullup resistor for the specific application is explained using the calculations.
This video will be helpful to all the students of science and engineering in understanding the pullup and pulldown resistors and how to select the pullup resistor for the specific application.
