What is melatonin and how does it affect baby sleep?

Melatonin is a super important hormone that is produced as a biological response for us to sleep well.

Babies under 8 weeks old have maternal melatonin left over from when they were inside of the womb, whereas after 8 weeks old, babies actually start producing their own melatonin.

You may notice during this time that your baby may start waking more and will lose their sleepy newborn phase.
