What is Drawer Slide Detent? Accuride Slide Terminology

Accuride US

When talking about drawer slides, a detent is a device using friction or interference to hold a slide in a particular position.

A common use for this is the Holdin Detent, or simply detentin. This feature is available on almost all Accuride Slides and makes sure the slides do not drift open when they are loaded with weight.

You can actually feel the detentin when you close or try to open a drawer as there will be a little extra resistance as you push past that point. This is not a drastic 'tug', requiring only 24lbs of force to get past it.

A holdout detent, or detent out, holds the drawer in an extended position. This is great for keyboard trays or anything that would be easier to work with if it stayed in a locked out position.

Just as it sounds, an intermediate detent occurs somewhere in the middle of the slide. this is extremely useful in two way slides so that a drawer is held in position when it is not extended in either direction.
