It’s important to remember when breaking your calf that all calves are different. In some cases, a calf may break in a few days, while others take weeks or months. Jon Gevelinger recommends working calves in pairs when possible. Pair your difficult calf with a calf that’s already broken. Cattle are herd animals, so they’ll automatically feel more comfortable. Then slowly introduce your calf to new things like being tied out and getting a bath, and focus on making each experience feel as good as possible.
