You might have been asked the “What are your strengths?” question in an interview at one point or even in a meeting with management.
Many struggle to know how to answer this question either due to a lack of preparation, a desire to appear ‘humble’ or simply not knowing what to say beyond the strength itself…
“One of my strengths is that I’m a great listener…”
*Blank stare with awkward silence*
This question is a brilliant opportunity for you to highlight your talents and achievements that demonstrate how you’re the best fit for a role or to establish and reinforce your credibility.
It helps to remember a simple formula.
Share:
1⃣ What you mean by the strength,
2⃣ How you ’live’ it, and
3⃣ Why it matters (to the company / team).
And then of course you share a specific and relevant reallife example demonstrating the strength in action.
A great tip is to then end with the impact of your demonstrated strength in the example you shared, e.g. “I managed to deliver a high quality project well ahead of schedule.”
How about you Do you struggle with answering this question?
Do you have any tips for what else to include?
